One man was killed and two others were injured, one critically, when a speeding motorist lost control of her car in Norwalk on Saturday, authorities said.
Heather Thomas, 18, of La Mirada was unhurt and is in custody on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, said Lt. Holly Perez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Norwalk Station.
Perez said Thomas was driving up to 70 mph heading east on Rosecrans Avenue near Seaforth Avenue around 6:30 p.m. when she lost control.
She hit train tracks across Rosecrans, possibly sending the car into the air, Perez said. The car hit a concrete pylon, careened down a fence and entered the rear parking lot of a liquor store, where it collided with the men, Perez said.
The victims, identified as transients, were taken to Coast Plaza Doctors Hospital in Norwalk, where one died and another is in critical condition. The condition of the third man was not known.
Perez said Thomas was not intoxicated, and officers are investigating whether she was racing.
