Trespassers Take From Condemned Homes
Trespassers are posing a new problem for the owners of six condemned homes at risk of sliding off their foundations following the winter’s rains.
Appliances and light fixtures have been taken from the Arroyo Avenue homes, and holes have been punched in the walls. Homeowners worry about who would be liable if trespassers are injured.
The city has installed pipes that continue to drain water from the hillside and has spent at least $500,000 on the problem.
Homeowners have filed claims seeking a total of $19 million, alleging that the city is responsible for the slides.
