Miracles: Real Thing, or Inspired by Man?
The May 22 editorial says that Pope John Paul II has been put on the fast track to becoming a saint. The problem here is that now everybody knows that two miracles will happen.
The first miracle is necessary for him to be beatified and then another for him to be canonized.
Given this fast-track approach and the popularity of the last pope, the chances of these two necessary miracles being reported and confirmed, probably by Roman Catholic doctors, is certain.
This being the case, does it not seem strange that these extremely rare interventions by God can be so easily predicted?
Put another way, Pope Benedict XVI, by starting the canonization process, will cause miracles to happen.
I feel that if miracles do happen, they should not be the known outcome of a man-inspired process.
