A reopening fraught with drama

Newly renovated, the Geffen Playhouse reopens after a year of construction with Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” featuring a cast led by John Goodman as Big Daddy, Brenda Fricker as Big Mama, Jeremy Davidson as Brick and Jennifer Mudge as Maggie. And if those character names aren’t colorful enough, how about Sister Woman and Gooper and their brood of “no-neck monster” children? The playhouse’s producing director, Gil Cates, directs the saga of a Southern family in crisis.
“Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” Geffen Playhouse, 10886 Le Conte Ave., Westwood. Opens 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. $35 to $69. (310) 208-5454, www.geffenplayhouse.com
* Runs 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 4 and 8:30 p.m. Saturdays, 2 and 7 p.m. Sundays; ends Dec. 18.
