Cates again to produce Oscars show

Gilbert Cates will return as producer of the Academy Awards telecast next year, the 13th time he has been chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to helm Hollywood’s biggest bash.
“Even with 12 shows in his past, Gil remains extraordinarily creative and ready and willing to give innovation a try,” academy president Sid Ganis said Wednesday in making the announcement.
Cates is a veteran director of theatrical and television movies and also serves as producing director of UCLA’s Geffen Playhouse.
The 78th edition of the Oscars will be handed out at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on March 5, live on ABC.
