A pilot towing a banner was seriously injured when his helicopter crashed at Long Beach Airport on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The unidentified pilot was alone in the Bell Jet Ranger 206 when it went down about 100 yards southwest of the main commercial runway about 1:30 p.m., said Battalion Chief Jeff Reeb of the Long Beach Fire Department.
Reeb could not confirm a report that the helicopter had become tangled in the banner. He said the National Transportation Safety Board was investigating. Commercial airport traffic was not affected, he said.
