Taking Bush’s Response to Task

Regarding “Bush’s Hurricane Response a Disaster,” Golden State, Sept. 5:
Columnist Michael Hiltzik hit a home run when he said, “New Orleans is, or should be, the graveyard of the conservative ideology that government is useless.”
President Bush and his conservative Congress have failed in their duties to provide security or essential services.
In their ideologically driven madness, the current caretakers of our government have gutted our treasury through tax cuts and war and left us all exposed and vulnerable.

Michael Hiltzik’s column doesn’t serve any good purpose by fomenting this kind of anger at a time when all of our energies should be directed to positive recovery and relief efforts.
He has seized this platform to further his obvious anti-Bush political views.
Why is it Bush’s fault that New Orleans wasn’t prepared for this kind of a disaster when previous administrations, both Republican and Democrat, also knew that a potentially dangerous situation existed and did nothing?

Unfortunately for us all, the Homeland Security Department’s myopic picture of the world refuses to acknowledge that we know, without a single doubt in the world, that natural disasters do and will continue to wreak havoc, and ignoring their existence serves none of us.
