Driver’s license bill rewards criminals

Re “Illegal Immigrant License Bill Advances,” Sept. 8
Democratic legislators, fishing for votes, want to reward criminals with California driver’s licenses. That’s the only authentic reason the bill’s supporters can honestly say is their real purpose in pushing this horrible proposal.
California, like all other states, will have to upgrade its licenses, procedures and the Department of Motor Vehicles by the 2008 federal deadline anyway. That’s no excuse to justify awarding criminals licenses. When illegal aliens become legal, they can then apply for a driver’s license just like the rest of us. Doing anything else is giving illegals special privileges at everyone else’s expense.
