A Franciscan monk from Mexico City has been arrested in San Diego on charges of using the Internet in an attempt to lure a minor to have sex with him.
Earl John Place, a 61-year-old U.S. citizen, is also accused of trying to transfer obscene material through the mail and Internet to a minor, according to the two-count indictment unsealed Wednesday.
Place was taken into custody by Mexican authorities and handed over Tuesday to U.S. agents in San Diego. A bail hearing is scheduled for today.
