GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
* Sam Taylor, San Pedro: Had 18 assists, six aces and two kills as the Pirates (1-0) beat visiting Venice (0-1), 25-7, 25-19, 25-11, in a rematch of last year’s City Section championship, which San Pedro won in five sets.
* Crystal Perryman, Tujunga Verdugo Hills: Had 21 kills, giving her a school-record 348 for her career, as the visiting Dons (2-0) beat Granada Hills (0-1), 25-14, 25-8, 25-11.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
* J.W. Krumpholz, Santa Ana Foothill: The reigning Southern Section Division I co-Player of the Year scored seven goals as the host Knights (1-0), ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section Div. I coaches’ poll, beat No. 8 Laguna Beach (0-1), 15-8.
* Matthew Nagaifhi, South Pasadena: Scored the game-winning goal in a 14-13 overtime win over Burbank to keep the visiting Tigers (7-0) perfect.
GIRLS’ GOLF
* Julie Cho and Jane Rah, Torrance: Each shot a three-over-par 39 to lead Torrance (1-0) to its lowest round ever in a 202-279 win over South Torrance (0-3) at Los Verdes Golf Club.
