From Times Wire Reports
Mexican officials bulldozed 31 abandoned buildings along the U.S.-Mexico border in the village of Las Chepas, the New Mexico governor’s office said.
Last month, Gov. Bill Richardson and Chihuahua Gov. Jose Reyes Baeza agreed the demolition was needed to establish a police presence and end lawlessness in Las Chepas.
The village, which has about 35 full-time residents, has been used as a staging ground for migrants and drug and human smugglers.
