A serene span, aglow

BRIDGES take us from one place to another, but this new span in Corona is a destination unto itself. Ribs of steel and golden culms of bamboo form an 860-foot tunnel, slightly surreal yet pleasingly serene. In the middle lies a surprise: the splash of a 10-foot-high waterfall, visible only to those walking the promenade. Illuminated at night and seen from afar, the bridge casts an ethereal glow, like some storybook caterpillar lost amid the meadow grasses and wildflowers. Nardi Associates of Monrovia crafted the structure as a link between planned housing and the new Dos Lagos shopping center, but the path provides so much more. Surrounded by the bustle and din of construction crews, there is this: calm in the center of the storm.
