Helen Mirren (“The Queen”), Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls”), Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond”), Forest Whitaker (“The Last King of Scotland”) and Will Smith (“The Pursuit of Happyness”) are among the honorees at this year’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which opens Jan. 25 with George Hickenlooper’s Edie Sedgwick-Andy Warhol saga “Factory Girl.”
Other festival selections include Michael Apted’s “Amazing Grace”; Joel Schumacher’s “The Number 23” with Jim Carrey, and Sean Meredith’s puppetized “Dante’s Inferno.”
Also on the bill are the documentaries “Jack Taylor of Beverly Hills,” which concerns the increasingly rare art of men’s custom tailoring; “Quantum Hoops,” about Caltech’s perennially losing men’s basketball team; and the tantalizingly titled “The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema.”
These are just a brief, random sampling of the offerings at the festival, which concludes Feb. 4 with Sue Kramer’s “Gray Matters.”
