USC prevails in second overtime

Led by Shay Murphy’s 26 points, USC overcame Oregon, 79-71, in two overtimes Friday night in a Pacific 10 Conference game at the Galen Center.
Murphy made two three-point shots in the last 1:30 of the first overtime to pull the Trojans even at 60-60. Murphy, who had been limited to six points in the first half, made another three-pointer and four free throws in the second overtime. USC (8-7, 1-3 Pac-10) had trailed Oregon (9-3, 2-0) by six at halftime.

Oregon State 56, UCLA 52 -- The Beavers (6-6, 1-2) made 55.6% of their shots in the second half to win a Pac-10 game at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins (8-9, 2-3) shot only 36.2% for the game and made 24 turnovers. UCLA cut the lead to 39-38 on Noelle Quinn’s shot with 8:27 left, but Oregon State went on a 7-0 run.
Before the game, UCLA announced that freshman guard-forward Amy Horton of Tallapoosa, Ga., had been granted a release from her scholarship and planned to transfer to a school closer to her hometown. Horton averaged 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in 16 games.
