FDA weighs easing of drug sale rules

The Food and Drug Administration announced that it was considering allowing patients to buy medicines directly from pharmacists without a doctor’s prescription in a move to ease access for the uninsured.
At present, most U.S. drugs either require a prescription or are sold in a traditional over-the-counter method. “Behind-the-counter” sales offer a middle ground, requiring patient interaction with a pharmacist.
