China can get cold in winter, but maybe not too cold for this bargain tour. The eight-day trip to Beijing and Shanghai includes airfare from San Francisco and a hotel room for $777 per person plus taxes and fees.
The deal: There’s a lot packed into the Tale of China’s Two Great Cities tour: round-trip airfare from San Francisco to Beijing; four nights in a hotel in the heart of the Chinese capital near Tiananmen Square; two nights in Shanghai; flights between the two Chinese cities; and more. The package cost is $777 plus tax and fees, based on double occupancy.
Participants can explore the cities on their own or sign up for optional tours that cost an extra $50 to $80 per person.
When: The trip leaves Feb. 23 and returns March 2.
Tested: You can make your own way to San Francisco or book flights there through the company, China Spree, which estimates round-trip fares between Los Angeles and San Francisco at $160. Additional costs: $99 for taxes and fees, and $170 for visa and handling fees.
The company’s website lists pricing, itinerary and other trip details, but you have to make a reservation by phone. I called Friday and found spaces still available on the February trip.
