Trees give us much and ask little in return: food, shelter, clean air, fuel, timber, even inspiration. The panel discussion “Why Do We Love Trees?,” with artist Jennifer Steinkamp, environmental studies professor Nalini Nadkarni and farmer David Mas Masumoto, will explore our relationship with trees from both a practical and a philosophical point of view. Bob Sipchen, editor of Sierra magazine, will moderate. Getty Center, 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles. 7 p.m. Thu. Free, reservations recommended. (310) 440-7300. https://www.getty.edu.
