An Uber driver was listed in critical condition after being shot and crashing into another car, authorities said Monday.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to assist the California Highway Patrol with what was at first thought to be traffic collision call in the 2000 block of El Segundo Boulevard just before midnight. When they arrived, the Sheriff’s Department said, they found a man in his 20s who had been shot it his upper torso.
The man hasn’t been identified, the department said.
Authorities said two men were sitting in the back seat of the Uber vehicle when one or both of them shot the driver and exited the moving car. The men ran east on El Segundo Boulevard while the driver continued a short distance before crashing, they said.
Officials haven’t confirmed whether the men were paying Uber customers.
Anyone with information on the incident can call the Sheriff’s Department Century Station at (323) 568-4800.
